CIT Mindfulness Training: Why This Conversation Matters
Jimmy Chapman brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience with the Roanoke County Police Department, where he retired as Assistant Chief. His deep involvement with Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) programs stretches back to the late 1990s. This is experience built on the front lines of public safety.
The analysis shows that CMPS's audience is highly interested in "practical regulation skills" and "in-the-field” narratives. This session is a perfect fit, offering actionable takeaways from a trusted, authentic voice in the public safety community.
CIT and Mindfulness: Two Sides of the Same Coin
Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is a proven, community-based approach that connects law enforcement with mental health resources to improve responses to individuals in crisis.
Chapman’s talk will explore how the core tenets of mindfulness—attention, non-reactivity, and self-regulation—can powerfully enhance a public safety professional's CIT skills:
Self-Regulation: CIT mindfulness training helps officers manage the stress and high-intensity situations they face daily. As CMPS’s content themes show, practical regulation skills are highly effective with our audience.
Presence and Communication: By increasing focused attention, mindfulness promotes a clearer, less reactive state of mind. This is essential for effective de-escalation and communication during a crisis intervention.
A graduate of the FBI National Academy and holding degrees from SUNY Brockport and Northeastern University, Chapman is deeply committed to advancing CIT initiatives across Virginia.
Don't Miss This Session!
Join us to learn how integrating a simple, "how-to" mindful approach with formal CIT training can improve officer performance, reduce stress, and ultimately lead to safer outcomes for both the community and the public safety professional.
Tune in for the Mindful Public Safety Hour to hear Jimmy Chapman’s insights on bringing awareness and tactical calm to every crisis call.
